How career scores work
ULS is a transparent measure of observed achievement relative to each role, not wins above replacement or an objective answer to every GOAT debate. Default points exclude the ongoing NFL season. Missing career evidence is never a zero.
ULS rewards strong play over time, standout seasons and the strongest eligible awards in each year. The same achievement is not rewarded repeatedly just because it earned several honors. A bonus for the best three seasons helps great short careers. Super Bowl MVP adds limited playoff credit; team championships alone add no points. Prime Legacy focuses on the best five seasons. Career pace compares players at the same stage without predicting future seasons. The score still needs independent reviews before it can settle all-time career debates.
Performance records mostly begin in 2006; kicker and punter records begin in 2013. Box-score stats begin in 1999. Earlier or missing seasons are not treated as zero, and a partial career is not a fair whole-career comparison.
