The Upside Index (UI) is a composite grade (0–100) that measures a college football player's NFL draft viability. It combines college production via a z-score model, conference strength weighting, athletic measurements, and multi-season consistency into a single number. Scores above 85 indicate elite prospects; scores above 95 are Blue Chip talents.
In holdout validation (2022–2024 seasons), the model identifies 60–97% of eventual top draft picks within the top-30 players per position. EDGE rushers and WRs score highest (93% and 97% precision respectively). OG and C are more difficult to project at 77% and 73%. The ML draft probability layer further calibrates raw scores into actionable percentages.
The database is updated annually after the NFL Draft concludes (typically late April/early May). Draft outcomes, AV data, and NFL team assignments are retroactively applied to all historical records. In-season prospect scores for the current college football year are refreshed after the bowl season ends.

The Analyst plan includes 10,000 API calls per month with a rate limit of 100 requests per minute. Additional API usage is available as an add-on at $0.001 per call. The API supports queries by player name, position, season, draft status, and team fit — with JSON responses following the same schema as the database export.
College production data is sourced from Pro Football Focus (PFF) annual grades. Athletic testing data is sourced from the NFL Combine, verified pro-day results, and RAS (Relative Athletic Score) calculations by Kent Lee Platte. Draft and NFL career data comes from Pro Football Reference. All data is cleaned, normalized, and quality-checked before inclusion.
